Kininaru Kimochi 04v2

Back in 2014, Orphan was trying to finish up orphan series of any kind. This included three hentai OVAs - Beast City, Lunatic Night, and Kininaru Kimochi - with unlicensed, untranslated final episodes. Orphan's h-anime arm, Okizari, released all three, using whatever random Internet raws were available. In 2022, thanks to ProxyMan's help, Beast City and Lunatic Night were redone from DVD sources. This year, I remembered that Kininaru Kimochi hadn't been touched. I asked ProxyMan for a DVD source, and this Okizari release is the result.

Why the long delay? Because Kininaru Kimochi 4 (Worrisome Feelings, subtitled "In the Kitchenette") is completely forgettable. It's a typical 21st century hentai, with the barest thread of a plot acting as an excuse for non-stop sex scenes. The scenario is that a company's sudden bankruptcy leads a buxom young office lady, Nishizaki, to confess to her manager. He takes advantage of her feelings and forces her to have sex with him in the kitchenette. Other men in the office jump in as well, mostly without her consent. End of story.

All the other screencaps are NSFW. 

The only credit of note is the voice actress playing Nishizaki, Nakase Hina, who appeared in several other h-animes between 2004 and 2014. The company that made the OVAs, Schoolzone, has disappeared, and their web site has as well. One can understand why. 

Moho Kareshi did the original translation. Perevodildo translation checked and found quite a lot to change. The original timer wanted to remain anonymous; I revised the timing for this release, edited, and typeset (one real sign). The late CP QCed the original, and Paul Geromini QCed this release, to his regret. ProxyMan provided the raw for the updated version.

That's it. Kininaru Kimochi 4 is by far the least distinguished of the shows Okizari has released. In fact, it's absolute garbage. The animation is cheap, with the same sequence of frames repeated to pad out the length. The "plot" is non-existent. Fortunately, it's short, and this version is better looking. You can get it from the X-rated side of the usual torrent site. 

Returning to the Scene of the Crime (Sei Michaela Gakuen Hyouryuuki II)

A decade ago, Orphan subbed a borderline hentai show called Sei Michaela Gakuen Hyouryuuki (St. Michael School Drifting Story), a convoluted time-travel OVA with multiple time travelers, alternate histories, nefarious plots, and too many twists and turns to be understandable. After two tries, I sort of threw up my hands about all the dangling plot threads and wrote, "These questions are answered in the sequel, Sins of the Sisters... maybe. Or maybe not." Well, as part of the ProxyMan project, Orphan has now subbed the 1994-1995 sequel OVA, Sei Michaela Gakuen Hyouryuuki II (titled Sins of the Sisters for its R1 release). And the answer is... not. If anything, the sequel is more confusing than the original.

Let me try to summarize the events of the original OVA. The roots of the plot start during World War II, with a romance between a Japanese office, Karino Daisuke, and a well-born woman and mother named Yuki, who is mostly notable for having a star under her left breast. Yuki's daughter Yumiko falls in love with Daisuke. When she discovers that he is her mother's lover, she is heartbroken and becomes a nun.

Fast forward to the 1980s. Yumiko yearns to be seventeen again and in the arms of Daisuke. Somehow this summons him through time. He seduces her, and together they set in motion the "Michaela project." This involves setting up a strict Catholic school for girls that teaches singing, dancing, and martial arts to create a "Girls' Crusade." The girls think they are training to become members of the Takarazuka Review. In fact, Daisuke intends to take them back in time to become "comfort women" for the Japanese Army in the Second World War. This will somehow inspire the soldiers to greater heights of valor and turn the tide of battle.

Daisuke's and Yumiko's nefarious plot in turn summons the attention of fallen angel (and intersexual) Hans Heilner, leader of the failed 13th century Children's Crusade. Hans travels through time and enrolls at the school disguised as a girl, Mimura Aiko. 

Hans wants to take the Girls' Crusade back in time to defeat both the Church and God. It also attracts the attention of ninjas from the 17th century Shimabara Rebellion. They want to take the Girls' Crusade back in time to fight the Tokugawa Shogunate. So there are three sets of time travelers -  Karino Daisuke, Hans Heilner, and the Shimabara ninjas - all of whom want to use the Girls' Crusade for their particular cause. After some confusing action in the past, a new timeline emerges, in which the world is peaceful, free of both religion and nationalism - thanks to the unspecified actions of Hans/Aiko and the Girls Crusade. Cue the sequel.

St. Michaela Gakuen II purports to show how the new timeline came about. In some ways, it is simpler - the ninja time travelers who summoned the Girls' Crusade to Shimabara are nowhere to be seen. But in others, it's even more absurd. Yuki, who is now married to Gonza, her servant in the "dark history", dreams that the timeline is wrong and must be fixed so that she can be with Daisuke. 

She is opposed by the "Old Sage," who seems more like a Dr. Who Time Lord than a Japanese mystic. 

Yuki acquires near-divine powers and animates the corpse of Ikeda Rika, who was killed in the first series, and transforms herself into Aaron, another intersexual. Yuki/Aaron goes back in time to make sure that the Children's Crusade actually succeeds (and that Mimura Aiko never comes into existence). Aaron corrupts the Pope

and parts the Red Sea, thereby allowing the Children's Crusade to reach the Holy Land. But the children discover a Papal contract selling them all into slavery and turn back to attack Rome.

Aaron, now desperate, kills all of the Girls' Crusaders that she can.

Eventually, she kills both Hans/Aiko and the Pope, thereby somehow accomplishing what Yuki wanted to prevent. But the Old Sage adjusts the timeline a bit to bring back all the Girls' Crusaders that Aaron killed, as well as Hans/Aiko. The vanished ghost of Daisuke tells Yuki that the "dark history" which included the two of them cannot be restored. 

Aaron vanishes, Rika dies (again) in Hans/Aiko's arms, and the utopian world timeline is saved. 

But frankly, I'm even less sure about this sequel than the first OVAs. And the idea that defeating the Shogunate and the Papacy would eliminate history and nationalism is preposterous. The thirteenth century included many other massive power structures, including the Mongol Empire, the Khmer Empire, China, the Incas, and other regional empires. What were they: chopped liver?

I never thought of Sei Michaela Gakuen Hyouryuuki as anything other than erotic trash. To my astonishment, it's actually a media mini-franchise. It started as a play in 1982; the play has been revived multiple times. It has also released as light novels, manga, and even a live-action movie. I found an online version of the play's script, but none of the others are available in digital form. As a "serious work," it deserves a few notes:

• The Children's Crusade was not an authorized crusade and may be an apocryphal conflation of historical and mythical events.
• In the R1 subs, the slave traders tell the children they'll be sold as slaves on the "Ivory Coast." This is an anachronism. In 1212, the slave trade was centered in North Africa's Barbary Coast. European traders had not reached the Bight of Benin. 
• The Pope at the time of the Children's Crusade was Innocent III. He was a powerful politician and Church reformer known for calling the Fourth Lateran Council, and not the secret libertine shown in the anime.
• The Pope says that Jerusalem had been recaptured by the Seljuk Turks. In fact, it had been recaptured by Saladin, a Kurd serving the Egyptian caliphate. 
• Amakusa Shirou was a Japanese Christian who led the Shimibara rebellion against the newly established Tokugawa Shogunate.
• Indra's net is a Buddhist metaphor for, among other things, the idea of Perfect Interpenetration in the universe.

One translation note. The R1 script uses "androgyne" for Hans and Aaron, but the first OVA series used "hermaphrodite."  The latter has been retained for consistency.

• Naka Hiroshi (Old Sage) played Daisuke in The Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045 series, Monkey D. Garp in One Piece, and Doc in Hellsing: Ultimate. and had featured roles in numerous shows, including After War Gundax X, Altair: A Record of Battles, BNA: Brand New Animal, Coppelion, Delicious in Dungeon, Zetsuai 1989, and Heavy. The last two are Orphan releases.
• Mizusawa Jun (Eiko, ep 2) payed Miyuki in Doukyuusei 2: Sostugyousei and Amy in Nessa no Wakusei, both Orphan releases.
• Sugawara Junichi (Gonza, Pope) appeared in numerous shows, including Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Knight, Ninja Cadets, Ninjo Scroll, Yawara!, Oshare Kozou wa Hanamaru, Magma Taishi, Plastic Little, and Okane na gai! The last four are Orphan releases.
• Kosugi Juurouta (slave trader, ep1, Karino Daisuke, ep2) played Murakami Atsushi in Magma Taishi, Mochizuki Rokurou in the Sanada 10 special, Utsubushi in Amatsuki, Aizman in Bavi Stock, Takanesawa in Hiatari Ryouko, Daisuke in Sei Michaela Gakuen Hyouryuuki, Gisuke in Shadow, Dr. Bayfam in Joker, the yakuza leader in Ashita Genki ni Naare!, and a bit part in Hi-Speed Jecy, all Orphan releases, as well as Krest in Ariel, Fernand in Gankuutsou, Hertz in Marie and Gali, and Touji in Ninku.

• Takano Urara (Sister Yumiko) played Marler in the Aa! Megami-sama franchise, Maria in the Sakura Wars franchise, Cocktail in Knights of Ramume, and Gloria in PriPara. She played Sushi Neko in Let's Nupu Nupu and Ken in Next Senki Ehrgeiz and appeared in Gakkou no Yuurei volume 6, all Orphan releases.
• Matsumoto Yasunori (Amakusa Shirou Tokisada, ep 1) starred as Guy in Heavy, Ichitaro in Ushiro no Hyakutaro, Akira in Mellow, Johnny in Starship Troopers, Kaname in Singles, and Tooru in Every Day Is Sunday, all Orphan releases. He was in numerous OVAs in the 1990s, including Houkago no Tinker Bell, Ziggy Sore Yuke! R&R Band, Seikimatsu: Humane Society, Fukuyama Gekijou: Natsu no Himitsu, and Al Caral no Isan, also Orphan releases. Among his other notable roles were Wataru Akiyama in Initial D, Jean Havoc in Fullmetal Alchemist, Gourry Gabriev in Slayers, Ryou in Sonic Soldier Borgman, and a personal favorite, Dick Saucer in Dragon Half.
• Amano Yuri (Miuchi Youko) (layed the title role in The Legend of Snow White, Julia in Daddy Long Legs, Kiyone in the Tenchi Muyo franchise, and Moemi in Video Girl Ai. The director, Yamaguchi Yorifusa, specialized in gag anime, so this show is way outside his wheelhouse.

The original translation was done by Central Park Media. Perevodildo translation checked and timed, but he didn't change much. I edited and typeset. Paul Geromini and new (to Orphan) staffer imatu QCed. The raw is from ProxyMan and is encoded from a Japanese laserdisc. This show is the last Orphan/Okizari contribution to the ProxyMan project, for now.

Sei Michaela Gakuen Hyouryuuki II didn't really need a new release, but in for a penny with the first OVAs, then in for a pound. I still don't know what's really going on, and the sex and nudity are not sufficient compensation for sitting through this. Still, it looks better than the R1 DVD, so if you'd like to admire the video, this is the version for you. Although it's an Orphan release like the first OVA, because it requires no censorship, it's still quite NSFW. Accordingly it's been torrented on the X-rated side of the usual site.

Nessa no Wakusei

Okizari presents the first English-subtitled release of the original version of Nessa no Wakusei (Desert Planet or Hot Sandy Planet), a mid-1990s borderline hentai OVA. It's better known in North America in its "enhanced" version, Bondage Queen Kate. This release is part of the ProxyMan project.

Nessa no Wakusei was created by a short-lived anime company called All Products. They specialized in borderline hentai like the Sei Michaela Gakuen series, Dragon Knight Gaiden, and Fencer of Minerva. Their first release was in 1990; by 1996, they were gone. Rights to their works fell into the hands of another short-lived hentai anime company, Five Ways. They tarted up Nessa and Gaiden with a few very short explicit scenes to create hentai OVAs for North America and other markets. This version of Nessa no Wakusei, from a Japanese laserdisc, is the first time the original OVA has been released with English subtitles. Blasphemboys has already released the original Dragon Knight Gaiden. 

The original Nessa no Wakusei is no masterpiece. It's an exercise in BDSM titillation, as close to porn as possible without earning an X (or NC17) rating. Based on an erotic novel by Hakage Tatenao, its protagonist is Second Lt. Kate Curtis of the Galactic Union Military Security Department, aka, the Galaxy Police.

Young (19), pretty, buxom, and a virgin, she is sent undercover by Major Jones to the desert planet of Doune, where young women are disappearing in alarming numbers. There, she is dropped into the hands of human trafficking criminals who kidnap and train women as sex slaves. 

Her captor, Brick, drugs, binds, and rapes her, then shares her with his fellow trainer, Dick. Brick is impressed by Kate's passionate responses and decides to keep her for himself as hit "pet." 

He and his ex-wife Cathy train her. Even though he's a rapist and a sadist, Kate falls in love with him. She's distraught when he pays attention to Amy, another slave. Eventually, Lt. Smith and Kate's support team rescue her, to her dismay. After a half-year leave of absence, she finds Brick on another planet and throws herself into his arms (and ropes) once again.

I could try to write a learned dissertation on Nessa no Wakusei's place in a long line of erotica about female submission, from Story of O to Fifty Shades of Grey, but there's no point. It's erotic trash, designed to earn a quick yen. The only interesting question, at least for me, is why Five Ways thought it was a good idea to make it into hentai by adding a bit (less than 20 seconds, total) of explicit content. Some All Products' releases went in the opposite direction. For example, CPM eliminated the only explicit scene in Fencer of Minerva for its North American release.

Nessa was badly mastered for its North American DVD, and the added explicit scenes are badly animated (static or low frame rate). Nessa no Wakusei on laserdisc (top) looks much better than Bondage Queen Kate on DVD (bottom):

• Kate appears in another Hakage Tatenao BDSM-themed erotic novel, Rebellion on the Spaceship Diana: Female Security Officer Kate's Voyage of Abuse.

• Kate's superior, Major Jones, prefers singing karaoke to organizing her rescue. His idea of appropriate equipment for her mission is a carry-on full of sex toys and skimpy clothing, with "Rape Me" on the side.

He also played Takei in Sotsugyou: Graduation, Honda in Bakuen Campus Guardress, Guy in Ai no Kusabi, Homare in Okane ga Nai, Shou in Condition Green, Saburou in Kasei Yakyoku,(the northern tribe's leader in Michite Kuru Toki no Mukou ni, Kotarou in Genji, Part 1, and Seishirou in Yuukan Club, all Orphan releases.

Some of the animation was done by a first-line company, J.C. Staff. The director, Asami Takashi, also did the storyboards.

The original English translation is credited to "Tokyo Rose," a pseudonym for a translator with many hentai credits. Perevedodildo translation checked and timed. I edited and typeset. Paul Geromini and Muzussawa QCed. The raw is from Proxyman, ripped and encoded from a Japanese laserdisc. It includes two AMVs and a promo. Both episodes have a longer version of the OP song, "Really Serious," set to a montage of highlights. The second episode has a promo for itself.

It wouldn't be correct to call the original version of Nessa no Wakusei a censored version of Bondage Queen Kate; the latter is an augmented version of the former. Even without the extra scenes, Nessa no Wakusei contains a plethora of nudity, sex, and BDSM content and is totally NSFW. If you can live without the inserted explicit scenes and would like to watch the show with better video quality, you can get this release from the X-rated side of the usual torrent site.

Kyuukyoku no Chef wa Oishinbo Papa

A new year, a new Okizari hentai release. This time it's the 1990 OVA Kyuukyoku no Chef wa Oishinbo Papa (The Ultimate Chef Is Gourmet Papa), based on a U-Jin manga. It shows his typical profile: comedy, schoolgirls, and fetishes. This is not quite the first English release, but it's the first one with a reasonably accurate translation.

The protagonist in Nishikata Kenzo, one-time private detective turned Chinese restaurant chef. 

However, that's just a cover for his true occupation: hitman for hire, specializing in avenging women who have been raped or abused.

His trademark is to serve part of criminal's anatomy to his client, as proof that he's succeeded. He's aided by his lovely young assistant Sai-chan, about whom he harbors dangerous fantasies, never acted upon.

The OVA abstracts a pair of stories, one short, one long, from the manga. In the first, Sai-chan lures an exhibitionist rapist into a fatal encounter with Kenzo's wickedly sharp carving knife. His junk ends up as a repast for the client. In the second, a woman named Akina hires Kenzo and Sai to save her younger sister from the clutches of Ikeno Koijiro, a villainous underboss of the Kuromon gang. Kenzo lures the yakuza into a pool filled with piranha. The villain tries to escape, but Kenzo pins his hands with a skewer and skins him alive. His back becomes sashimi for the client.

However, that's just the opening chapter of a longer story. The Kuromon gang is in league with a corrupt and perverted politician, Gotokuji Daizo, and numerous CEOs to set up a nationwide schoolgirl prostitution ring. (Kenzo is outraged about this, because they're hogging all the pretty girls.) Daizo hires assassins to go after Kenzo and Sai-chan. Kenzo barely survives his encounter with the Supreme Barber Technician Boy, but Sai-chan defeats her sukeban (delinquent) schoolgirl assailant. Kenzo then tickles the key information out of the second assassin. After that, Kenzo and Sai-chan decide to go after the Big Shots and take them down, in a welter of bloody action.

Kyuukyoku no Chef is old school hentai, more plot than sex scenes, and it actually requires some explanatory notes:

• Kenzo constantly introduces himself as "a man who can tell the difference." This is a parody of a long-running Nescafe Gold ad campaign that started in the 1970s, featuring men who "know the difference" in their fields of endeavor.
• "A carp is swimming up the waterfall, huh?" A reference to a Chinese proverb, "Even a carp is not strong enough to swim up a waterfall." The yakuza is named Koijiro (koi means carp), and he has a carp tattoo on his back. 
• Gotoku Daizo is involved in the "Lucrate Scandal," a stereotypical company name. 
• He's also involved with the so-called M-fund, an urban myth about supposed war loot confiscated by the American occupation and subsequently lost.
• When Kenzo tells Akina that she can't come along for the final battle, he calls her a shiroto, meaning a non-yakuza or layperson.
• When Kenzo wheels in the corpse of the gang boss, he calls him kurobuta (black pig), a pun on the gang name Kuromon (black gate). 

It's also notable for its animation mistakes:

• At 11:48, Sai-chan says to Akina, "Here's your tea." There's no tea. 
• At 22:22, there's a reaction shot to Barber Boy's "It's you!", but Kenzo isn't drawn in.
• At 33:34, three CEO's are supposedly shot with a spear to create an "evil three color dango skewer," but it's not actually shown; the three men are freeze-framed in a doorway.

There are no voice credits. I think Genzo is played by Chiba Shigeru, but I can't be sure. The director, Tomizawa Kazuo, mostly did animation.

ProxyMan got the ball rolling by providing an encode of his own Japanese laserdisc. Perevodildo translated, timed, did some of typesetting, and researched the references. I edited and did the rest of the typesetting. Paul Geromini and Muzussawa QCed. It is being released under the Okizari label as part of the ProxyMan project.

Kyuukyoku no Chef wa Oishinbo Papa is typical U-Jin: funny, sexy, gory, and preposterous. It has a fair amount of nudity, sex, and blood, so it's definitely NSFW. You can get the show from the NSFW side of the usual torrent site and, until January 31, 2026, IRC bot Orphan|Arutha in channels #nibl or #news or irc.rizon.net.

Angel

Okizari presents a new English-subtitled version of the 1990 hentai OVA Angel. The show is based on a fragment of a long-running manga by the prolific ecchi and hentai mangaka U-Jin. The manga tells the adventures of Atami Kosuke, a scrawny and perpetually horny high-school student. The OVA focuses on his initial encounters with his childhood friend and eventual love interest, Himenogi Shizuka. Like many of U-Jin's works, Angel has comic moments between the sex scenes.

In this story, Shizuka has just arrived at a new high school. She hopes to be reunited with her childhood friend Kosuke. After being bullied, they had pledged to get stronger. Shizuka kept her word and has become a tall, strong, good-looking fighter. Kosuke, on the other hand, forgot all about Shizuka and has devoted his teenage years to ogling and, if possible, nailing pretty girls. 

After several feints, the serious plot involves an evil PE teacher who is trading better grades for sex and has ensnared a studious girl named Hitomi. Kosuke and Shizuka set a honey trap for the teacher.

It almost ends very badly, but thanks to the timely intervention of Kosuke's tall, manly friend Kanji, they succeed. Shizuka hopes Kosuke is a reformed character, but of course he isn't.

The sex scenes are heavily censored, but apparently even that wasn't sufficient. In the late 1980s, a serial killing set off a a press-fanned Otaku Panic that blamed anime and manga porn for the crimes. Censorship laws were tightened. As a result, the Angel manga did not receive a tankoban (book) release for many years, and the anime was edited down - six seconds were snipped from each of the sex scenes between the PE teacher and Hitomi. The cut version was used for all subsequent home-video releases. This is the first time that the original version has been made available outside Japan, as part of the ProxyMan project. 

As was common practice at the time, most of the voice actors used pseudonyms. Shiraishi Saori, an idol, who played Shizuka and sang the songs, used her real name. I think Ogata Kenichi played the PE teacher, but I can't be sure.

The original script was by Erobeat; I had edited that version. Perevodildo was skeptical of that script and did a new translation. He also redid the timing and quite a bit of the typesetting. I edited and did the rest of the typesetting. Paul Geromini and Muzussawa QCed. ProxyMan provided the raw, ripped and encoded from a Japanese laserdisc. The show is being released under the Okizari label.

Angel is very typical of last century hentai in having more plot than sex, and of U-Jin's work, in having some amount of comedy. It is also typical in featuring fetish themes and, by US standards, underage characters (Japan's age of consent was 13 at the time). It's not compelling, but at least it's complete. You can get Angel from the X-rated side of the usual torrent site.

On the Malleability of H-anime: The ProxyMan Project

The handle ProxyMan has cropped up several times in this blog as a source of rare anime, both mainstream (Shibuya Honky Tonk, Dragon Slayer Eiyuu Densetsu: Ouji no Tabidachi) and hentai (Kakyuusei 1995, Lunatic Night 3). The scope of his work is far larger than the tiny fragment that has been released by Orphan (or Okizari). He has been systematically collecting hentai anime from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. His analyses show that material created in Japan is often substantially altered for Western markets, and not always in the ways one might expect.

Now, it's no secret that commercial media like anime has never been treated as sacrosanct in the West. Japanese cartoons were not merely dubbed for American audiences; they were often folded, spindled and mutilated, with the Japanese original being viewed merely as visual source material. Thus, Toei's 1960 Saiyuuki was redone as Alakazam the Great, 1961's Anju to Zushio Maru as The Littlest Warrior, and so on. Macross was dubbed, edited, and rewritten into Robotech. Tezuka Osamu's Tetsuwan Atom became Astro Boy, with deletions and changes that greatly upset the author. Even Miyazaki's revered 1984 Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind was chopped to pieces to create the mid-80s Warriors of the Wind, which remained in circulation until a faithful dub appeared in 2005. After that, Miyazaki put a no-edit clause in his overseas licenses, but that did not stop Miramax from "adapting" rather than translating Princess Mononoke. (Hint: watch it with Japanese audio and English subs to get Miyazaki's original intent.)

Other changes would be done in the name of localization or catering to local market requirements. Some series basically received new scripts. The R1 release of Crayon Shin-chan is crude, raunchy comedy, but as the dedicated work of my colleague Skr at BuriBuri has demonstrated, the US scripts translate the Japanese scripts only by happenstance. In other cases, the artwork was changed to match target demographics. The original Japanese version of Maze is an ecchi boob-fest, with lots of topless girls. In the North American version, aiming at a PG rather than R rating, the bare breasts are all covered up. Because the North American version was the only version to get a DVD release, and the original series masters are considered lost, how Maze was meant to look was not known in the West until the Japanese laserdiscs were found and ripped.

The cavalier stance of overseas licensors toward originals is even more obvious with hentai (or borderline hentai) releases. Most people think that the distinction between Japanese hentai and Western versions is removal of censorship, but that's only part of the story. Japanese R- and X-rated anime receive all sorts of alterations, not just decensoring. In some cases, explicit material has been removed to turn a hentai release into softcore. In other cases, explicit material has been added to make a softcore release into hardcore. Scenes or even whole episodes have been removed because of sensitivities in target markets. As a result, some titles that the R1 market knows in one guise looked very different in Japan. This is where ProxyMan's work in collecting and comparing editions has proved its worth. Some examples follow.

1. Turning softcore material into hardcore. Nessa no Wakusei and Dragon Knight Gaiden were borderline stories, with nudity, sex, and fetish material, but nothing explicit. For the US market, Five Ways interpolated some badly done 1-3 second explicit scenes. This in turn became the DVD release in both countries. The Japanese laserdiscs have the original, R-rated versions.
2. Turning hardcore material into softcore.  Fencer of Minerva, volume 1, had an explicit scene of the heroine being violated by enemy (female) warriors. It was the only explicit scene in all five volumes, so it was removed in the US and Spanish editions. It can still be seen, censored, in the Japanese laserdisc, and uncensored in the French edition. Something similar was done in Dragon Rider, volume 2.
3. Catering to local requirements. All hentai in Japan is distributed in censored form, with the "naughty bits" obscured by mosaics or other effects. Unless this was done for comic effect, as in Karakuri Ninja Girl, the R1 releases are uncensored. But other deletions were imposed, particularly because of concerns about underage (2-D) characters in sexually explicit material. Japanese characters, both male and female, are often drawn to look young, which is problematic. Sometimes they are stated to be young, which is really problematic. So the second volume of The Maiden Diaries was never released in R1, because the female protagonist is clearly underage. Inju Seisen (Twin Angels) and La Blue Girl had various scenes cut because characters looked too young.

Now, I'm not trying to defend the "artistic integrity" of ecchi or hentai anime or to second-guess the changes that were made in the licensing process. These shows were throwaways, intended for entertainment, titillation, and profit. Local laws must be observed. But personally, I prefer to watch Japanese anime, of any variety, the way it was made. I prefer Saiyuuki to Alakazam the Great. I prefer Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind to Warriors of the Wind. And the same applies to ProxyMan's trove.

In support of his efforts, Orphan and related groups like Blasphemboys will be redoing some  of these shows, with ProxyMan's raws and updated translations and typesetting. Not all of them - just enough to illustrate the transformations and gyrations. Blasphemboys has already released Dragon Knight and Dragon Knight Gaiden, using the Japanese laserdiscs. Gaiden doesn't have the Five Ways explicit interpolations, so both are R-rated.

Blasphemboys' hentai label, Muzu'sNudes, has just released Nankyoku 28 Gou (in R1, Mail Order Maiden 28). According to ProxyMan, "The US release cut out a 2-3 second shot of sex probably because it was the most explicit scene in the OVA, however, they left a screencap of it in the credits." Orphan/Okizari has a few titles in the works as well.

Consider the ProxyMan project a Christmas present to the fans. Well, no one was willing to work on Santa Company: Christmas no Himitsu anyway.
