Status 2020

Current status:
  • Makoto-chan the movie. In QC.
  • Rail of the Stars. In QC
  • Sweet Spot. In RC
  • Saiyuuki 1960 HD. In RC.
  • Bocchan. In editing.
There's still plenty of backlog. Stalled at translation checking - encoding, translation, timing are done:
  • Bakumatsu no Spasibo
  • Fighting Beauty Wulong. The professional scripts we were given appear to be dub scripts. They need to be translation checked.
  • Genji Pt 1
  • Mother Saigo no Shoujo Eve
  • Nayuta
  • Cool Cool Bye
  • The Choujo
  • Hakujaden
  • Adesugata Mahou no Sannin Musume
Next, stalled at translation - encoded and pre-timing are done in most cases:
  • DAYS OVAs 2016
  • Magma Taishi (Ambassador Magma)
  • Mellow
  • Raiyantsuurii no Uta
  • Sanada 10 ep 10-12
  • Sugata Sanshiro
  • Tengai Makyou
  • Tezuka Osamu Kyoto Animation Theater Works
Next, stalled at encoding:
  • R2J DVD - Amatsuki; Haruka Naru Toki no Naka de 2: Shiroki Ryuu no Miko; One Pound Gospel; Mars OVA; Sanada 10 ep 10-12
So Orphan needs staff, of all kinds: translators, encoders, QCs (particularly an RC), but yes, even editors and typesetters - I'm now the bottleneck on too many projects. If you're interested, and you know what you're doing, please contact me or other staff members on IRC.

  1. Hi there,

Do you need a proofreader for Makoto-Chan the movie? I'd be willing to help revise the translation, if it's done!

Cheers and thanks for taking this project.

    1. Not a proofreader, but rather, a translation checker.

  2. Looks like you guys already have a lot on your plate.

I've been informed that the group primarily works on things that interests them personally (understandable of course) but recently I've binge watched a lot of old anime OVAs including some subbed by Orphan which is how I became aware of this blog! Others are RAWs I would be interested in seeing an English sub for one day if you might consider them in the future. There are also other RAWs I wanted to watch but the torrents are dead; maybe I get lucky and you guys end up subbing some of them and re-release them again?

    - Climbing on a Cloud AKA Kumo ni Noru

    - Dance till Tomorrow AKA Asatte Dance

    - Emperor of Minami AKA Naniwa Kinyuu Den: Minami no Teiou

    - Heavy 1990

    - Jingi

    - Koiko's Daily Life AKA Seishun Fuufu Monogatari: Koiko no Mainichi

    - Otokogi and New Otokogi (Shin Otokogi)

    - Private Detective Toki Shozo Trouble Note: Hard & Loose AKA Shiritsutantei: Toki Shouzou Trouble Note - Hard & Loose

    - Rolling Ryota AKA Korogashi Ryouta

    - Shibuya Honky Tonk

    - Shin Karate Jigoku-hen (New Karate Hell Chapter?)

    - Shura ga Yuku

    - Silver Man AKA Gin no Otoko

    - The Sky is Mine: The Billionaire Detective (apparently the official English name for the live-action adaptation; anime OVA use same title?) AKA Ore no Sora Keiji-hen

Finally if you guys are able to release a better encode or obtain a better source, would you consider re-releasing this (already subbed in English)

    - Wounded Man AKA Kizuoibito (apparently a DVD source used for an Italian fansub? I've only seen it years ago on a low quality VHS rip)

    - Elementalors AKA Seirei Tsukai originally subbed from a VHS rip. I found a more recent DVD or LD rip with a couple seeds on nyaa that included the old sub as a bonus. This was literally the only way I could obtain the movie. No streaming site appears to have it; regardless of whether the story is good or not IMO it should be more accessible

    Thanks for your time!

    1. Climbing on a Cloud: I've capped it, though it was pre-Domesday. https://nyaa.si/view/1136029

There's a pretty good rip of Heavy out there, not by me. I do have it on LD though, so maybe a Domesday rip isn't our of the question.

I also have Elementalors on LD... its a weirdly common disc, actually. Probably because it was cheap.

    2. ...and by cheap, I mean it was 9,800 yen. That's about double what most OVA LDs of the time period would cost, so I guess I remembered that all wrong.

  3. Lots of interesting shows in your list, like Kumo ni Noru, Asatte Dance, Korogashi Ryouta, Shibuya Honky Tonk, etc... but no translators! The English subs for Kuzoibito are from a Hong Kong DVD and unusable.

  6. I've been searching for a subbed version of Emperor of Minami (starring Riki Takeuchi) for ages, does any one have one by any chance?
