Except for short-runtime shows, few current series are left orphaned, because almost everything gets streamed and captured. Thus, orphaned series are mostly a matter of the back catalog.

Note that the list only includes series that were started by one group and
abandoned and then picked up and redone or finished by a different
group. Subbing old series that were never done before doesn't count; nor
does resuming a series after a long pause. ARR's subs are often derived
from Hong Kong or Malaysian DVDs.
Orphan rescues in progress (aka, the Fingers-Crossed List):
- Patalliro (aarinfantasy)
- The Kobocha Wine (Flapsubs)
The note from the previous list applies here as well.

- Puu-neko
- Robin Hood no Daibouken
- Romance of the Three Kingdoms (2010)
- SuzakiNishi
- Tanoshi Moomin Ikka
(Updated 10-Sep-2023)
You can add The Kabocha Wine to the list of orphans stuck in limbo, since it was dropped after 7 episodes.
ReplyDeleteStill hope someone pick and finish The Kabocha Wine, I liked it.
DeleteI wouldn't count Groove Adventure Rave; the TV-fansubs were finished by Soldats and ChocoFansubs way back in 2002 or maybe 2003. Tipota only did a DVD-rip version and re-release of the old subs.
ReplyDeleteHow about Corrector Yui, which saw 18 episodes released in R1 ages ago (and recently ripped by ARR), but had its DVD release canceled by Viz?
If someone picked the 2010 Romance of the Three Kingdoms that would be awesome.
ReplyDelete**picked up**
ReplyDeleteMy email response to you has bounced: Please contact erik@otakubell.com with a valid email address, please.
ReplyDeletewhat about Daa!Daa!Daa!....
ReplyDeleteThe AonE-Frostii team isn't dead, just incredibly slow.
DeleteI've translated the first four episodes of Marco for Kiteseekers. :) Hopefully they'll start being released later this year.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where Ep. 01-08 of Shinshaku Sengoku Eiyuu Densetsu Sanada can be found? I got Ep. 09 off of nyaa and Ep. 07 is on nyaa but it has no seeds and I'm stuck at 56.4%.
ReplyDeleteI’d like to submit an unsubbed project for a coproduction: http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=2852
ReplyDeleteI translate from official french subs to english, I only need a TLC/editor & a Qchecker for this.
I’ve translated & encoded first 15 episodes yet.
Contact me if you’re interested in.

Translating from one language to another language to yet another language is a terrible idea.
Delete"Yawara (FroZen) " -> FroZen-EviL, onegai shimasu... Don't drop the coolest joint name of all times :P
ReplyDeleteCollectr, I might be interested in working on Corrector Yui, if I can get a hold of at least pretty good quality raws for the show. I'm a fan of Kia Asamiya's works, so I thought I would just throw it out there. Oh, BTW, this is tenkenX6 from Live-eviL.
ReplyDeleteLOL, tenken under disguise :-)
DeleteThere are DVDs, apparently, but I haven't see ISOs or even an encoded torrent.
DeleteHmm... well, maybe some ISOs or raws will show up one of these days.
Deleteomgs I don't know how you compiled this list (how do you track all these "old anime" I love old anime too btw) but thank you for noticing dash kappei! I am happy to say that it is in the works currently by the same group (more like the same person), by the same translator but the translation quality is really good this time around. also I've got my hands on the actual spanish dvd files so higher quality encode/audio. I also got my hands on the japanese tv airing :) a lot changes in 6/7 years let's just say. In fact there's a whole bunch of scripts done but I'm just waiting up on my editor right now. it'll be released under a different group name just because the quality of "midori subs" was just down the shithole.
ReplyDeleteso anyways that show is not in limbo but it is moving slowly lol. I must reiterate I think people will be pleased very pleased with the translation quality. The subbing is from episode 1 and up because the translation quality of midori is abyssmal and it really makes a huge difference.
Great news. I look forward to moving Dash Kappei from the Series Broiler to the Rescue in Progress list.
ReplyDeleteWait, C1 is resurrecting and subbing Kakyuusei '99?
ReplyDeleteI know for a fact that the anime Konnichiwa Anne: Before Green Gables hasn't been subbed for years, and its subbing group never did anything with it anymore.
ReplyDeleteI know for a fact that the anime Konnichiwa Anne: Before Green Gables hasn't been subbed for years, and its subbing group never did anything with it anymore.
ReplyDeleteWish someone would pick up Shounan Bakusouzoku again. It's been almost a decade and we got BD rips now!
ReplyDeleteIt' 2 decades. It was released by Animeigo on VHS.
DeleteRyuma, you have Reb releases from 2009?
Deletehttp://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=group&gid=2607&aid=2060
I can not find anywhere!
Animeigo only did the first episode of Shobaku. As I recall, it was their single worst-selling title they ever got the rights to - which is a shame, because I enjoyed it.
DeletePatalliro is being subbed (really slowly) by aarinfantasy.
ReplyDeleteThey released 2 episodes on their forum last year.
There are no translators to this series there, that's why it's taking so long :/
Onara Gorou has been on Crunchyroll with English subtitles (among others) for a while now.
ReplyDeleteWhen someone rips it, I'll remove the show from this list.
DeletelSaint Seiya TV is also stuck in limbo. Hoj was going to do some more episodes after the fansubs stopped at 62, but only released some incomplete versions. The first official release was only to 60 and the one by New Video stopped in the 70's and was terrible.
ReplyDeleteSaint Seiya TV has been subbed to completion at least once. The quality may be poor, but if I included every series, OVA, and movie with bad subs, this list would be ten times larger, or more.
DeleteDidn't ADV Films do all of Saint Seiya TV? I got the first volume in a clearance sale just to try it out, since I like some of Kurumada's other works. Turns out I didn't like Saint Seiya at all.
DeleteBaxinger from the J9 Trilogy is in limbo right now at just 16 episodes. Though the whole J9 trilogy is available for license from enoki films and Discotek have licensed multiple titles from them over the last two years. I actually tweeted them non seriously about this and got a 'like'. By no means a confirmation they will license it obviously but I wouldn't be surprised if they did eventually.
ReplyDeleteStill Baxinger certainly seems to have been oprhaned. In fact alot of mecha series from the 70s-80s have shared that fate.
Some other shows that seem to be orphaned:
ReplyDeleteDanguard Ace - The first of 2 giant robot series created by Leiji Matsumoto. The first 7 episodes were supposedly done by someone a few years ago, but they no longer appear to be available. 56 episodes total.
SF Saiyuki Starzinger - The other giant robot series created by Leiji Matsumoto. The first 12 episodes were subtitled in the late 00's, but nothing since. 73 episodes and 1 movie total.
Ginga Hyōryū Vifam 13 - Sequel series to the original Ginga Hyōryū Vifam. This series came out in 1997, and amazingly (considering how popular the original series was) seems to have escaped most fans notice. I recall some group said they were going to work on it back in the late 00's, but so far as I know nothing came of it. 26 episodes total.
Choriki Robo Galatt - Comedy giant robot parody series. A fansub of episode #1 came out in the late 00s, but then nothing. 26 episodes total.
God Mazinger - 2 episodes subtitled in early 10's, then nothing. 23 episodes total.
Thanks. Mecha/giant robot series are pretty much off my radar screen, so I didn't know about these series.
DeleteYou're welcome. And if anyone is looking for a fansub project, tackling any one of those titles would be very much appreciated.
DeleteThere are almost certainly others in the Giant Robot/mecha genre from the 1970s that I haven't listed. As someone else mentioned, a lot of mecha shows seem to have been started but either the fansubbers lost interest or just didn't have the time to finish the job. As mentioned above, "Baxinger" is almost certainly orphaned; "Magunerobo Ga Kiin" is borderline, and in any case releases have been so slow it almost might as well be.
God Mazinger fully subbed by AnimeShinigami. Danguard - by ARR.
DeleteI have a volume or two of Vifam 13 on LD. Never watched it, or the original Vifam. The OP to original Vifam is awesome, but it just looks so... kiddly.
DeleteTaiwan DVDS has no english subs. We mostly ripping malaysian KL (Kuala Lumpur) DVDS.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the correction.
DeleteWhat about Orphaned rips? If there's sponsors, we still can buy DVDs for:
DeleteCyborg 009
Emi
Tom Sawyer
Karate Baka Ichidai
Probably another orphaned show: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=15955 - Francesca: Girls Be Ambitious.
ReplyDelete5 episodes were subbed out of 24 (half-episodes - 12 mins each).
12 eps subbed by ARR
DeleteMaichingu Machiko-Sensei - licensed by Discotek
ReplyDeleteSonic Soldier Borgman (and Metal Jack) - in work by Project Borgman darkboy1635@gmail.com
Lady Georgie - in work by Kofuku
I have kofuku the DVD ISOs for Lady Georgie. Nothing so far.
DeleteHakuouki: Otogisoushi - fully subbed on YT
ReplyDeleteOnara Gorou - already ripped
Double did Onara 7-11; 7 is no longer seeded.
DeleteI don't count YouTube stuff; I'm old fashioned that way.
SunakiNishi - officially released on DVD
ReplyDeleteHiatari no Ryouko - done by Ray=out
BAR Kiraware Yasai - done by ARR
Dragon Quest - done by ARR
Robin Hood no Daibouken - oficially released at Amazon Video
ReplyDeleteOrphaned projects:
ReplyDeleteMoeru Oiisan OVA 2
D-1 Devastator OVA 2
SD Gundam MK II - 2
SD Gundam MK III - 1
SD Gundam MK V 2-3
SD Gundam Matsuri
SD Gundam Scramble
Do you have [Nightwish] Lady Georgie?
ReplyDeleteHate to ask this, where can I ask about obscure anime that I don't know the name of (but heard of a description of)? I have one I am trying to find (if it's real) and where should I ask?
ReplyDeleteCosmic Baton Girl Comet-san should be in the list too.
ReplyDeleteHikari no Kiseki never finished it.
