Recruiting! (Always)

Time for another update on current projects:
  • Margaret OVAs. Five of the six are released. The last one is in translation.
  • Sangokushi movies. All three encoded and translated; the first is in QC, the second and third in editing and typesetting.
  • DAYS OVAs. Encoded, translated, and timed; in editing and typesetting.
  • Eguchi Hisahi no Nantoko Narudesho. Encoded, translated, timed, and checked; in editing and typesetting.
Potential projects include Bakumatsu no Spasibo, Blue Sonnet, Fukuyama Theater, Genji Pt. 1, Karuizawa Syndrome, Majou Demo Steady, Manxmouse, and Mother: Saigo no Shoujo Eve, all waiting on timing or translation checking. In addition, there are a number of resub projects on the back burner, including Kashou no Tsuki. We also have a gigantic jigsaw puzzle to do: putting together a script for AWOL Compression Remix from the VHS tapes of the original AWOL TV series. New, interesting raws arrive all the time; a batch of two dozen laserdiscs has just arrived from Japan.

Orphan always needs additional experienced staff. Right now, we could use another timer, as well as an experienced encoder who likes to deal with old, recalcitrant sources. And I must confess that I could use some help in editing and typesetting, as you can see from the number of projects stuck there (and some others I can't discuss yet).

  1. I have a 9 episode request, it's actually 3 + 6

Ring Ni Kakero : Shadow 4 to 6
Ring Ni Kakero : Sekai Taikai Hen 1 to 6

I know that it's not the greatest anime, and far from it actually, but 9 episodes to do is tempting, isn't it?

  2. Hey, hope you've been doing well lately. I recently noticed that hSa has recently been seeding raws of the Hidamari no Ki anime on nyaa - so far they have eps 1 through 14 there, and I personally got great speeds. See here:

    http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=802623
    http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=810199

I just grabbed a couple of the eps to see the resolutions - Ep 1 is 900x720, and Ep 1-6 are all of similar filesizes, while Ep 9 is also 900x720, while Eps 7-14 are all of similar filesizes (smaller than Ep 1-6). I haven't dug around enough to know if they're upscales from poorer resolutions, but worth a look.

Looks like they've been releasing it in fits and starts since last July, but 7 and 8 seemed to appear for the first time in April 2016, and 9 through 14 in May, so it seems like they're ripping at a good clip now. So it's not complete yet, but hopefully it will be soon - maybe worth checking with them to make sure they have all of it available to rip.

I know you guys had been talking about subbing this one if good raws ever became available about a year ago, so I just wanted to alert you to these if you weren't aware yet.

Thanks again for all your work.

    1. I've got them, thanks. They'll do for translation, but they're not good enough for a release. I'm still looking for the Japanese DVDs or ISOs thereof.

    2. i actually happen to be going to Japan in a few days, and it would be my pleasure to purchase the DVDs, bring them back to the US, rip them and upload for you guys.

my wife (who is Japanese) and i have gotten so much pleasure from your releases of Hidamari no Ki, i feel it is the least i could do to "repay" you guys for your hard work(s).

i've added the DVD's to my list of stuff to get, i'll ping you when i'm back and i will either start seeding or (more likely) contact you with a URL from my own server to download.

thank you (and the entire Orphan team) again for your dedication.

talk to you in a few weeks!

    3. Rick, thanks to an anonymous benefactor, Orphan already has the Hidamari no Ki DVDs. Thanks for your offer. Almost all our projects - and all our media needs - are for laserdiscs (see the comment on Kasei Yakyoku).

  4. I too have been looking for anyone that was working on Stop!! Hibari-kun, I Really hope this anime gets released soon. If there was any way for me to help i would gladly give it. This is one of the greatest anime ever produced (In my opinion) It's original, old, and not like any of the anime released today. Please release it soon. Thank you

  8. Hi. I made a Russian translation of Cosmic Fantasy. If you want, you can get the timing from there, maybe you will find it useful: http://fansubs.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17500

  9. Hey, I'd absolutely be interested in translation checking Stop!! Hibari-kun.
I'm a native English speaker, but I have a modicum of knowledge about the Japanese language. I'm currently a QCer over at Live-Evil, as well as a proofreader (and editor and a bunch of other things) for Golden Roze Scans.
I couldn't find any place to contact you, so I'm just posting here. Do you have an e-mail or an IRC?

    1. Since lack of translators is one of the group's most pressing problems, the answer to any request for additional translations is no.

    2. Erik from Piyo-Piyo Productions here. Are you sure that's a DVD raw? We did some digging and cross-checking on my laserdisc collection to identify all capture targets, and we found no evidence that title made it past LD.

  25. Hello, I heard from Ziggy from the project gxs that you work on old and rare anime, do you have an interest in translating the Dai Yamato Zero-gou? after a while searching I finally found his raw, and apparently there are no translated versions of it in any language.

° Here is a print of the size and shape of it.

    https://disq.us/url?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FgoCy921.png%3A6PBlf7IMkVgZsFrkfkMHCsGlq3k&cuid=2620174

It has a total size of 3.51GB
5 episodes of approximately 40 to 50 minutes

If you accept the project, I'll be posting the anime link that I uploaded to google drive.

    1. While I'd be happy to have the raws for future reference, I can't make any promises about the show. Please see http://collectr.blogspot.com/2016/08/how-orphan-chooses-projects.html for a description of how projects get selected.

    1. I also have a Laserdisc rip of the OVA if you haven't already ripped the RAW file just yet. I've downloaded it back in 2013, though the original uploader seems to be anonymous. The video resolution is 720 x 480, but it's got some blank space that you might have to crop if possible.
